Phuentsholing police on April 28 arrested seven women and a man, all non-Bhutanese, for alleged involvement in prostitution. One of the women is a repeat offender, who was arrested and convicted for six months in 2014.

The arrest was made at the lower market and at a hotel, police confirmed yesterday.

The officer commanding (OC) in Phuentsholing said the man and a woman had admitted to the crime.

“The hotel owner would also be booked,” the OC said.

Although the owner had told police that they did not know about it, police said it was difficult to believe. Hotel owners should maintain records of people, he said.

Phuentsholing police is investigating.
