The former Dzongkha Development Commission secretary Dasho Sherab Gyaltshen, allegedly made false vehicle insurance claims of more than Nu 0.2 million from the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan Ltd (RICBL), Kuensel has learnt.

A source told Kuensel that Anti-Corruption Commission officials working on the RICBL’s Executive Director Sonam Dorji’s case detected the alleged corrupt practice.

The alleged claims were made after his Toyota Prado met with an accident in 2016 and had to undergo repairs.

It is also learnt that the executive director allegedly helped convert the insurance cover of the vehicle from the third party to comprehensive entitling the former secretary to more claims.

The repair was actually made to the engine but claims were submitted for various parts of the car.

However, there was no police report on the alleged accident of the vehicle, which was possibly why the bills have not been settled by the company even after the payment was made.

Sonam Dorji was suspended along with the managing director in July this year after the ACC, which is investigating the suspected fraud and collusion surrounding the investment of RICBL fund in Nubri Capital Private Ltd, directed the insurance company’s board of directors to suspend them with immediate effect.

In a telephone interview, Dasho Sherab Gyaltshen said that he has no comment.

ACC Commissioner Jamtsho refused to comment saying the case is still under investigation.
