Accident: A 54-year old excavator operator of the Construction Development Corporation Ltd, and a father of four, died on impact after a boulder hit him and threw him off the road.

The incident occurred at the on-going Nganglam-Gyalpoizhing highway construction site near the Kuri-Gongri confluence on June 13.

A Pemagatshel police official said the incident took place at around 3pm.

Police personnel and people at the construction site could not immediately recover the body given heavy rain, fog, wind and falling stones. The deceased had fallen 120 metres.

With help from Desuups and police, the body was recovered yesterday.

The deceased was with two other workers cleaning debris from blasted rocks when the incident occurred. He was not operating the excavator at the time.

“They went to check the site to locate which area to blast next and drill,” a police official said, adding that while the other two workers were standing away from the cliffs, the deceased went further and was suddenly struck by the falling boulder.

The deceased succumbed to head and chest injuries according to police.
