Dorji Dema, 48, from Dorona in Dagana won the first prize of the move for health special lottery, worth Nu 5 million.

Bhutan Lottery Limited presented her Nu 5million (M) in an over-sized cheque at the Bhutan Lottery office in Phuentsholing, yesterday.

The housewife and a mother of five said she didn’t expect the only lottery ticket that she bought from her daughter’s house owner in Thimphu would win her the first prize. She was then, on her way back from selling cardamom in Phuentsholing. She lives in Dagana with her husband, who is a farmer.

Her daughter shared the news with her on February 5.

She plans to use the money to liquidate the loan she had availed to build their house in Dagana and construct a mani dungkhor (prayer wheel) near their home. The rest of the amount, she wants to invest in her children’s future.

Bhutan Health Trust Fund’s (BHTF) director, Sonam Phuntsho (PhD), said the ticket that won the second prize of Nu 2M was from the ticket booklets that the BHTF sold. While the third prize winning ticket of Nu 1M was among the booklets that were sent to Samdrupjongkhar for sale.

However, no one has yet come forward to claim the second and third prizes.
