Sports federations and associations have planned their activities following the notification from the government on March 12 to allow sporting activities without spectators from April 25.

Bhutan Taekwondo Federation’s programme officer, Sonam Tshewang, said the federation would conduct intra-school championships in dzongkhags upon approval from the schools and the Dzongkhag Covid-19 Task Force.

Bhutan Badminton Federation will continue the selection of junior national athletes and evening training for the selected athletes. These athletes will participate in the Seventh Children of Asia International Games 2022 in Russia or the Asian Youth Games 2022 in China later this year.




An official from the badminton federation said coach would scout more para-athletes from different districts and prepare for the Asian Para Games 2022. The federation is also set to provide basic coaching for students after school.

Bhutan Tennis Federation’s (BTF) general secretary, Tshering Namgay, said: “BTF has our regular junior or national training schedule in preparation for upcoming Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup.

“BTF will also conduct national coach training for school tennis coordinators and coaches from different dzongkhags,” he said.

Coach with Bhutan Volleyball Federation, Tandin Wangchuk, said training and tournaments are on schedule.

The Bhutan Football Federation’s first Mini Dragon League, scheduled to finish on February 5, has been postponed. More than 300 children below 12 years of age from Thimphu and Paro have been participating in the league at the Changlimithang stadium since November 11 of last year.




The semifinals and final matches of the first beach volleyball tournament in the capital, organised by the Volleyball Federation, have been on halt.

The under-15 Bhutan Amateur Baseball League in Thimphu, organised by the Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association, started in December last year and was postponed. Five teams are competing in the tournament.

Selection and training camps for the Under-19 national cricket team in Gelephu is pending. The selected candidates will take part in the international tournament in September in Oman.
