Disaster: Forest officials, Desuups, official of Kurichu Hydro Power Project and villagers are trying to contain a forest fire in Tsamang and Saling gewogs in Mongar.

The fire that occurred on March 5 has damaged over 1,000 acres of chir pine forest, including community forests and parts of Phrumsengla National Park since .

The fire broke out at about 4pm from above Phrumsengla National Park .

Jangchub Gyeltshen, the park’s range officer, said the police, park officials, Desuups, KHPC staff and nearby villagers are still trying to contain the fire on dangerous terrain.

Tsamang Gup Yeshi Thinley said that people turned up in hundreds to fight the fire that  damaged a Bhutan Telecom office  in Dramang .

“This is the first fire in Tsamang gewog in about 30 years,” said Yeshi Thinley.

The cause of the fire is under  investigation.
