There is possibility of light to moderate rain or snowfall over the passes of Haa, Thimphu, Gasa, Bumthang, Trongsa and the northern region in the next 48 hours, according to an advisory from the National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM).

Chief of Weather and Climate Services with the NCHM, Singay Dorji, in an email to Kuensel, said that the average minimum temperature of the country for the last five days was 5.2 degree Celsius with below zero degrees in the northern and western parts.

“The lowest recorded temperature for the last five days was -7.2 degree Celsius on January 22, recorded from Bumthang station,” he said.

Thimphu recorded its first snowfall on March 11 last year. The snowfall of 9.5cm was the heaviest recorded in more than a decade. In 2016, the first snowfall of 0.5cm was recorded on January 20.

The advisory states that the weather system is constantly being monitored and updates on the forecast will be issued.
