Taba Middle Secondary School (TMSS) secured 27 runs in five innings and defeated Druk School (DS) in the ongoing under-15 Bhutan Amateur Baseball League (BABL) at Changangkha, Thimphu, yesterday.

DS could only manage eight runs.

Dechencholing Higher Secondary School (DHSS) thrashed Thimphu Primary School (TPS) 23-2 runs in five innings on the same day.

In the opening game on December 18, DHSS defeated DS 34-18 with runs in five innings.

DHSS’s Tandin Tshering said that his team had practised for more than three months for the league. “Our performance has been good. We hope to win the tournament.”

The first-ever BABL saw 90 students from five participating schools: Changangkha Middle Secondary School (CMSS), DHSS, TPS, DS, and TMSS.

Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association’s Vice President Nabin Basnet said the league will prepare young players for dzongkhag clubs and senior leagues.

“Baseball is a fast-paced game where the players’ agility is a must,” Nabin Basnet said.

Baseball and softball are a relatively new sport in the country.

The games are being held at CMSS and DHSS’s ground with strict adherence to Covid-19 protocol.  All the games are scheduled on weekends with a maximum of seven innings.
