Election officials conducted dhamngoi zomdu in five out of the eight gewogs in Thimphu: they were conducted in Chang, Kawang, Ge-Nyen, Soe, and Maedwang by yesterday afternoon.

However, aspiring LG candidates from only four gewogs have been nominated, as election officials have yet to collect the result from remote Soe gewog.

Dzongkhag official said, the team that conducted dhamngoi zomdu in Soe went directly to Lingzhi after completing the zomdu in Soe. “We could not contact them for the Soe results.”

Most voters in the Danglo-Namseling chiwog of Maedwang gewog, which has not had a gup from the chiwog since 2008, supported their gup candidate in the zomdu yesterday.

Securing 177 ‘yes’ votes out of the 189 voters gathered for the dhamngoi zomdu, Kado was nominated as the gup candidate from the chiwog.

Maedwang gewog has four gup candidates, three of which are male, and a female.

Dawa Tshering will, however, compete against a gup candidate from Kuzungchen chiwog, Norbu Gyeltshen, who secured 52 ‘yes’ votes from all the voters who attended the zomdu.
