In a daylong cleaning campaign, foresters across the country collected about 15 truckloads and nine DCM truckloads of garbage from forests and roadside areas yesterday.  Wangdue forest division also imposed Nu 25,950 as penalty to 52 individuals or households for disposing waste illegally. About 677 foresters took part in the cleaning campaign.

The foresters will collect waste on the ninth day of every month hereafter.

Agriculture minister Yeshey Dorji said that some staff will remain in the offices to cater services to the people.

Bhutan conducted a nation-wide cleaning campaign on December 9 last year to commemorate a decade of His Majesty The King’s reign. The ministry also revised the fines and penalties in the Waste Prevention and Management rules.
