Having gained witnessed and understood challenges that people face during his eight-years career as journalist, 33-year Surjaman Thapa, late of Bhutan Broadcasting Service, has decided to stand as National Council candidate from Dagana.

Surjaman Thapa, former television reporter, said he had the privilege to attend and cover stories about both National Council and National Assembly, which helped him understand the roles, responsibilities, and functions of Parliament and its members.

“I am confident that my experience will enable me to serve my community in better way and bring differences not only in the community, but also in district and the nation,” he said. “I feel National Council as a house of review is the right place for me at this juncture.”

Surjaman Thapa holds Bachelors of Arts (Mass Communication and Journalism) from North Bengal University, India.

Dagana has the highest NC aspiring candidates so far.

“For me, being in the NC is very important where everything has to be studied and analysed,” he said, adding that he found work of journalist was similar to that of NC representative. “I am confident that I can bring positive changes.”

He said that he decided to contest for NC after people from Dagana encouraged him to do so.
