Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) announced yesterday that former National Council Chairperson Dasho Sonam Kinga (PhD) has joined the party.

He is from Galing, Shongphu gewog in Trashigang.

According to the party, Dasho Sonam Kinga joining the party will bring in freshness, motivation, dynamism, and leadership which will further renew and redefine the party.

He obtained his doctorate in Asia Studies from Kyoto University in Japan. He had also studied at Sherubtse College and Lester B. Pearson College in Canada. He started his career as a researcher at the Centre for Bhutan Studies.

The party states that along with his team, he joins DNT which finds strong resonance in his political vision and strategies for addressing national issues. More on this will be revealed subsequently at an appropriate time.

The party also mentioned that his position within the party and candidature for Bartsham-Shongphu constituency in Trashigang will be formalised and confirmed following the party’s institutional processes as prescribed by the Election Commission of Bhutan.
