A senior artist from the Royal Academy of Performing Arts (RAPA) resigned about three months ago to contest as the National Council candidate from Balam gewog in Mongar.

Tshering Penjor, 32, from Jadung village continued his studies at the Royal Thimphu College (RTC) to materialize his dream of participating in the electoral processes. “I upgraded my education just for that.”

He said that he had to study as a continue education (CE) student in RTC although he qualified to study at Sherubtse College in 2011 because he couldn’t avail study leave from his office then.

“As the head of the family, I could not resign and continue my study,” he said. He completed his Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) from RTC last year.

Tshering Penjor said that he served as the president for the CE students during the four-year study at RTC.

He said that as he had a difficult childhood, his focus is on helping the youth and people who come from deprived families. “I also want to help the elderly people.”

He said that he would also explore the possibility of developing the economy and creating opportunities that are sustainable.

The artist said that he wanted to ensure that government safeguards the interest of the nation and fulfil the aspiration of the people through a public review of issues, bills and other legislation.”

Meanwhile, there are about 14 NC candidates from the dzongkhag.
