Zawakha police in Wangdue detained four men for alleged theft of 700 meters of telephone cables in Jesogang.

Zawakha is about 30km from Wangdue town.

Police sources said three men were arrested on January 22 evening, while the fourth suspect was arrested yesterday.

“The three men arrested earlier said that the fourth man was involved,” a police official said.

Zawakha police officials said they received a complaint on January 21 from Bhutan Telecom management in Wangdue of the theft.

“Bhutan Telecom (BT) officials said the underground telephone line cables were stolen and the phones were not working,” the official said.

Following the complaint, police conducted a surprise checking during which the three suspects were caught in a bolero with the cables.

The suspects confessed to stealing 400ms of the cables on January 18 and later visited the nearby site to take additional 300ms from the same telephone line.

According to police, the suspects claimed that the shredded cables were to be taken to Phuentsholing for sale to a scrap dealer.

While one of the suspects is a farmer, other three are drivers. All suspects work in Wangdue.
