A vehicle (an old model land cruiser) carrying more than Nu  20 million belonging to a private bank met with an accident killing all four people on the spot yesterday when the van plunged more than 300 metres below the road.

The driver, two policemen escorting the cash and an accountant of the bank were killed when the vehicle travelling from Phuentsholing to Thimphu veered off the road near the Jantalum bridge before reaching Damchhu on the Thimphu-Phuentsholing bypass road at around 1:30 pm yesterday.




A source said that the Tshimasham police was immediately informed and the police cordoned off the accident as the cash was all scattered at the accident site. Police managed to  retrieve a damaged AK-47, two magazines with 19 bullets with one bullet missing from 20 rounds.

The cause of the accident is being investigated. 

Kuensel learnt that the out of more than the Nu 20 million the vehicle was carrying, only about  Nu 15.7 million was found from the site.
