A 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by four men in Thimphu on April 14.

Of the four suspects, two are 18-year olds while the other two are 19 and 20-year old.

Police are interrogating the alleged suspects and the woman.

According to sources, the alleged victim knew one of the 18-year-olds and they were in a relationship. The other three men were his friends. While the woman claims that she does not remember what happened that night, the four men have confessed that they sexually assaulted her.

Kuensel learnt that the men took a case of beer and a bottle of whiskey with them and all five were under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place.

Forensic examination found signs of sexual violence and some bruises on the woman’s body.

Penile swabs of the men were taken to see if there is a presence of spermatozoa (sperm cell) and their blood samples were also taken to screen for Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

A forensic official said that no restraint injuries were found on the man’s body. The case is under investigation.
