Gedu College of Business Studies (GCBS) won the Phuentsholing annual inter-departmental football tournament yesterday.

After a 2-2 draw by the end of the match, GCBS scored two more goals  during the penalty shoot out against the immigration team. Immigration team was also the defending champion.

About 36 teams participated in the tournament and a total of 80 matches were played since the tournament started on October 12.

The Phuentsholing Sports Association (PSA) general secretary, Gyem Tshering, said the number of participating teams had decreased this year.

“There were 39 teams last year,” he said, adding that the number of teams was more in 2017 when the artificial turf was launched. “The rush was more then.”

The tournament also had a ticketing system.

Meanwhile, GCBS took prize money of Nu 150,000, while the first runners up, immigration team took Nu 100,000. Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited had won against Bank of Bhutan Limited to secure the third position.

During the finals yesterday, a lottery was also organised. Seven different prizes were distributed. The prizes were donated by T-Bank Limited. More than 2,500 spectators had gathered to watch the final yesterday.

PSA organises the inter-departmental tournament in Phuentsholing every year.
