Residents of Lingmukha chiwog in Punakha, who benefitted from the improvement of 4km road with granular sub-base (GSB), are waiting for the gewog to improve the remaining 3km.

Of the 7km Lingmukha chiwog road, works to improve the 4km with GSB began in February this year, benefitting residents of 30 households.

Lingmukha gewog spent Nu 11 million to improve the road with GSB.

Farmers said that before the road was improved, they had to leave their vehicles in Dompala as small vehicles could not ply on the farm road. They had to walk to their village.

Lingmukha tshogpa, Dawa Zam, said vehicle owners would leave their vehicles at the gewog centre or in front of houses for security in the past.

Farmers said they could now sell their farm produce in Khuruthang.

Lingmukha tshogpa, Dawa Zam, said it was difficult to find vehicles for transportation because of poor road conditions before.

She said before the road was improved, drivers refused to ply on the farm road. “Taking sick people to the hospital was difficult.”

Lingmukha gup, Sonam Tobgay said they would try to improve the remaining stretch of the road in this financial year.

He said that on the 4km road, certain drainage works were yet to be completed. “The  monsoon has damaged some concrete structures.”
