The first cohort of Gyalsung cadets from Pemathang Gyalsung Academy celebrated their historic Passing Out Parade (POP) yesterday.
Her Royal Highness Princess Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck graced the ceremony at the Pemathang Gyalsung Academy.
A total of 576 cadets completed their training at the Pemathang Academy, supported by 18 training officers and 83 instructors.
Reflecting on the experience, Gyalsup Damchoe Norbu, 18, expressed his gratitude to His Majesty for the opportunity.
“Through physical training and teamwork, I discovered my potential and developed resilience. His Majesty’s trust and vision, along with the support of my peers and family, kept me motivated throughout,” he said.
Gyalsup Sonam Choden, 19, said that although the physical training was challenging at first, they were able to push through with guidance and support of instructors and training officers.
“The skills and values I gained will stay with me for life.”
Tashi Yangdon, another graduate, highlighted the personal transformation she experienced. “Before, I could not jog for five minutes. Now, I can complete a 10-kilometre run. The encouragement from my peers and the training has made me stronger, both mentally and physically,” she said.
She added that whenever the country calls upon the Gyalsups, she will be ready to serve without hesitation.
His Majesty the King envisioned the Gyalsung Programme as a transformative initiative designed to empower the youth, foster their active participation in nation-building, and enhance the country’s security, peace, unity, and sovereignty.
The first Gyalsung training began in September 5, 2024 and lasted for three months.
