Urbanisation has not touched Haa fully yet. Outsiders, particularly tourists, often describe it as ‘almost-medieval’.

The people of Haa still depend largely on livestock and agriculture. It appears that the dzongkhag was left out by development mainly due to its location. Haa is cold; winter in Haa is very cold, indeed.
