Roads: The works and human settlement ministry has asked commuters to use caution while travelling as landslides have caused several roadblocks throughout the country.

Roads department officials said following continuous and heavy rainfall over the past two weeks, many of the roads across the country are blocked due to landslides.

A press release from the works and human settlement ministry stated that the roads department regional offices after mobilising manpower and machineries are working continuously to clear the roadblocks.

“Also, commuters are advised to be cautious while travelling, as there are road widening works going on and the roads in some stretches are risky,” the press release read.

Roads department chief engineer Tshering Wangdi B said that Box Cutting and Reotala on the Trongsa-Gelephu highway have intermittent roadblocks.

“There are continuous slides blocking the road, so it could take sometime in clearing them, but we’ve people on site to keep the road open,” he said.

Roads in Zhemgang continue to remain blocked in several areas.

There are blocks at various locations on the Tingtibi-Praling, Gomphu-Panbang, and Doban gewog centre road in Sarpang.

Other dzongkhag and gewog roads are open to traffic according to roads officials.

Heavy showers are expected this weekend according to weather forecasts.
