More than 135 acres of paddy in Dorokha lay damaged after the heavy rainfall on October 25 evening, which continued until the next day.

Owing to the pandemic and the rising rice price, farmers had worked hard this time and had cultivated about 332 acres of paddy.

Dorokha Gup Padam Bahadur Rai said that people had shown more interest this year in agriculture.

“Now, this is a great loss to them,” he said, adding that the damages have come right at the peak of the harvest season.

The gup said that the gewog administration had assessed the losses and submitted reports to the relevant agencies.

Dorokha agriculture officer Gem Tshering said three chiwogs have been affected by the downpour.

However, he said almost 60 percent of the total damaged paddy could still be harvested.

“The rest were transplanted late and had not matured for harvesting,” he said.
