Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck, graced the World Savings Day yesterday at Royal Textile Academy.

The event was attended by National Assembly Speaker Wangchuk Namgyel, Chairman of National Council Tashi Dorji, Finance Minister Namgay Tshering, Human Settlements Minister Dorji Tshering, and representatives from various agencies and students from Thimphu schools.

The day is observed to raise awareness among the public on the importance of financial literacy and saving.   

RENEW Microfinance Private Limited has been observing this day every year on   October 31 by initiating various events and activities across the nation.

The theme of this year’s saving day was “Saving prepares you for the future”.

RENEW Microfinance held several activities like poetry recitation and storytelling competitions with the theme “The importance of saving.”

Executive secretary of RENEW Microfinance said, “The day was observed to inform people all around the world about the idea of saving money.”

Her Majesty awarded the prizes to the winners of piggy banking competitions that took place among the students of Jigme Losel Primary School and Dechencholing Higher Secondary School.
