On the Royal Command of His Majesty The King, special prayers will be conducted across the nation today upon the passing away of the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

His Majesty will offer prayers and karmi tongchoe (thousand butter lamp ceremony) in Samdrupjongkhar. His Majesty is on a tour of the east and southern parts of the country. 

The Late Amir, who passed away yesterday at 91, is a good friend of Bhutan. Under the wise leadership of His Highness, Kuwait has not only achieved peace, progress and prosperity but also a high international standing in the global community. His Highness leaves behind a legacy of outstanding contributions to the advancement of peace and stability. 

The demise of His Highness is a great loss not only to Kuwait but also to the international community.

To honour the Late Amir, national flags across the nation, all Bhutanese Embassies, Missions and Consulates will be flown at half-mast.
