Appointments: His Majesty The King appointed six government secretaries and the secretary general of the National Council yesterday. The new secretaries who received Dhar from His Majesty at the Tashichhodzong yesterday were:

Dasho Karma W Penjor, the former secretary of the Dratshang Lhentshog, who is the new secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications. He received the red scarf in April this year.

Sonam Wangchuk, the former secretary of the Gross National Happiness Commission, has been appointed as the new secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources.

Dr Ugen Dophu, former director general of the Department of Medical Services, takes over as the new health secretary.

Sonam Topgay, the former director general of the Department of Law and Order, is now the secretary of the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs.

Karma Yeshey, the former director general of the Department of School Education, is now the secretary of the Ministry of Education.

Nim Dorji, returns to the Ministry of Finance, where he worked for 25 years, as the secretary, after serving as the director general of the Department of Agriculture for a year.

Chencho Tshering, the former Paro Dzongdag, is now the National Council’s secretary general.

The secretaries to the government are appointed by His Majesty The King, as described in the Constitution (Article 2.19): “on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, who shall obtain nominations from the Royal Civil Service Commission on the basis of merit and seniority and in accordance with other relevant rules and regulations.”
