His Majesty the King visited Pemathang Gyalsung Academy in Samdrupjongkhar on September 2 for an inspection of the site in preparation for the official launch of the Gyalsung programme on September 5.
Pemathang is one of the four Gyalsung academies established across the country, alongside Khotokha in Wangdue, Gyalpoizhing in Mongar, and Jamtsholing in Samtse.
The first cohort of Gyalsups have already arrived and are being housed in temporary accommodations, while the academy’s main facilities are still under construction and scheduled for completion next year.
During the visit, His Majesty met with the Gyalsups and the team responsible for managing the programme at Pemathang. His Majesty emphasised that the physical and mental well-being of the Gyalsups is of paramount importance. His Majesty stressed that the young people be well taken care of, comfortable, and happy throughout their training period.
The Gyalsung programme, Bhutan’s National Service, was announced by His Majesty during the National Day celebrations in 2019. It represents a landmark initiative aimed at empowering Bhutanese youth to become successful and capable citizens, ensuring a bright future for the nation.
While in Samdrupjongkhar, His Majesty also visited Dewathang to meet with the Desuups at the ongoing 65th Batch Desuung training programme. His Majesty travelled to Samdrup Jongkhar from Gelephu, after granting Audiences to government officials and Desuups training for the 65th Batch at Pelrithang.
