Nima | Gelephu

Having worked in Gelephu Thromde as an engineer for 15 years and as thrompon for the past five years, Thrompon Tikaram Kafley, 46, is preparing contest again.

The infrastructure development, town planning implementation, and services in Gelephu are better today, according to Tikaram Kafley. “There are many big projects happening. They need continuity.”

Multipurpose sports complex, urban corridor, construction of bridges, and a long-term drinking water project from Balukhola are among the big projects that are being planned. Some are being implemented.

Tikaram Kafley claimed that he accomplished more than he pledged during the last election. “Experience as an engineer was helpful while working as thrompon.”

The increased revenue generation of at least Nu 10 million after allocating plots to private entrepreneurs and completion of LAPs are some of the achievements he credits to himself besides ensuring increased water source through the construction of seven bore wells and construction of mini dry port.

“The road network within the thromde increased from almost 30 kilometres road to more than 90 kilometres, improving the accessibility of the people in the thromde today,” he said. “There is no complaints about water shortage anymore. Community service has been enhanced. Turn around time is drastically reduced. Waste management improved and cleanliness enhanced,” said Tikaram Kafley.

He said that today there was a risk of less experienced people running the thromde administration.  “The present administration is good and I can make it better with my experience. I can coordinate with them well because I understand their nature of work because of my experience. I want to make Gelephu a better city in all respects.”

The Thromde Tshogdu of Thimphu, Phuentsholing, and Gelephu will complete their office on February 26.
