Bumthang re-elected its incumbent council candidate Nima.

Nima won 3,513 votes, while his opponent Kencho Tshering secured 2,419 votes. The results are however, provisional.

The incumbent secured 962 postal ballots, 614 more than Kencho Tshering. Electronic voting machine (EVM) results from 19 polling stations in Bumthang saw Nima winning 2,551 votes.

Kencho Tshering served as the gewog administrative officer for the last 10 years and spent his last five years in Choekhor gewog. 

The NC elect, Nima said he was happy to be re-elected. 

“The incumbents have already initiated some bills and policy review, I am happy to continue with what we started,” he said. “Irrespective of who wins, the candidate should benefit the country, people and strive to achieve the visions of His Majesty The King.”

Nima expressed his gratitude to the people of Bumthang and pledged to serve with dedication and loyalty.

Bumthang has 9,752 eligible voters, of which 5,932 turned up to vote, making a turnout of 60.8 percent.
