Authorities at Paro International Airport intercepted an Indian national on December 22, seizing 4.6 kilogrammes of heroin concealed in his luggage.

The suspect is currently in custody at the Paro police station.

The man, traveling alone, was on a flight from Bangkok to Paro when routine security checks revealed the contraband.

Airport customs officials discovered the heroin concealed in a plastic packet within his luggage. Despite the sophisticated concealment, the scanner detected the hidden drugs, leading to his immediate arrest.

The suspect, along with the package, was handed over to the Paro police.

Sources told Kuensel that the man served as a mule, responsible for transporting the heroin from Bangkok to Bhutan where it was to be handed over to an accomplice.

However, the police are yet to identify the supplier or the intended recipient of the narcotics in the country.

The police are searching for the individual who was supposed to receive the drugs.

Meanwhile, Paro police declined to comment on the case, stating that it is still under investigation.

This is the first case of heroin seizure at the Paro International Airport.
