Economy: The price of goods and services last month increased by 0.15 percent compared with the previous month, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

This was due to an increase in food prices by 0.13 percent and non-food prices by 0.17 percent.

However, the year-on-year inflation or between April this year and April last year, the price of goods and services increased by 3.07 percent.

This was 0.12 percentage points higher than the previous month’s year-on-year inflation.

The prices of domestic goods and services increased by 4.22 percent due to an increase in food prices by 4.02 percent and non-food prices by 4.33 percent.

The prices of imported goods increased by 2.01 percent with corresponding increase in food prices by 1.87 percent and non-food prices by 2.11 percent.

CPI is a measure of the average price change over time felt by the consumers for a market basket of goods and services. Market basket refers to a sample of commodities which is representative of all goods and services purchased by households.

The National Statistical Bureau (NSB) keeps track of price variation of 151 items (436 varieties).
