Introducing zoning system in border areas

Rajesh Rai | Phuentsholing

Phuentsholing, Gelephu and Samdrupjongkhar, Samtse, Lhamoizingkha, and Jomotshangkha will not get to experience the lockdown ease today.

Instead, zoning system will be introduced in these places starting from today.

This is what the Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering announced yesterday in his address to the nation.

Lyonchhen said that the novel coronavirus threat was primarily from the international borders and that there was no risk from those who had entered the country by air as they were quarantined for 21 days.

“The risky places are in the border areas where there are more business transactions and more people,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister said that distribution of movement card would start from today in Phuentsholing.

He advised that people should be cautious within the next five to six days after they get their cards. “After the movement, if people contract the virus, the symptoms will show up within five to six days. If you have those symptoms, don’t visit the hospital straight away.”

Lyonchhen said people should first call the number provided. Depending upon the situation, the health officials will either visit their house or take up other necessary actions.

Lockdown would be eased depending upon the situation after the movement card is allowed, Lyonchhen said.
