Tshering Wangchen has secured a landslide victory in the National Council election in Mongar yesterday.

The 43-year-old from Narang Gewog won with a significant vote difference from his six opponents, securing 3,649 EVM votes and 2,417 postal ballots.

Tshering Wangchen worked in various sectors for 16 years. He contested in NC elections in 2013 and 2018 and served as a De-suung Regional Coordinator in Mongar for three years.




Incumbent Sonam Pelzom from Tsamang Gewog secured 4,349 votes, followed by Tashi Penjor with 3,591 votes, and Dorji Wangmo with 3,305 votes. Chhimi Dorji and Tshering Dorji secured 1,993 and 1,255 votes, respectively, while Jigme Tashi acquired 963 votes.

Only 9,844 postal ballots were counted as valid out of 10,723.




Mongar has 17 gewogs and a thromde with 38,157 eligible voters. Only 11,641 voters cast their votes through the EVM yesterday.

Mongar has 72 polling stations. A total of 538 officials were deployed to various stations on April 19.
