A-League: Fourth seeded Jachungs will take on Jaguars, seeded sixth, in the finals of the Pepsi “A” league basketball championship at the swimming complex today.

Jaguars knocked out two top seeded teams of the league, Pazaps (seeded one) and Phojas (seeded three) on its way to the finals. Jachungs had an uphill task bringing down the second seeded Wizards in the third game of the semi finals, defeating them by just three points.

Both teams played 12 games to get into the finals. Sonam Tshering of Jaguars scored 211 points for an average of 17.6 points per game (ppg) in 12 games followed by Pema Gyaltshen also of Jaguars with 206 points (17.2 ppg). In the third place is Jachungs Kuenzang Namgyal with 203 points (16.9 ppg) to his name.

The game will feature the league’s two best deep-threats, Pema Gyaltshen of Jaguars who scored a total of 42 three-pointers in 12 games. He is followed by Lhuendup D Dorjey of Jachungs with 41 three-pointers.

With 47 defensive and 12 offensive rebounds each for Jamtsho Tshering (Jaguars) and Rinzi Wangchuk (Jachungs), the match will be an all-star showdown. Jamtsho has also 39 assists and 13 steals in 12 games.

The finals will be a three-game series and the first match will begin today at 3:30pm at the swimming pool complex. The game will be broadcasted live on BBS 2.

The maintaining of statistics of every match, the first in Bhutanese basketball tournament, was maintained by coach Mike Behnke, an American basketball coach who is currently working with Bhutan Basketball Federation.
