Japan’s foreign minister Taro Kono will arrive in the country today on a three-day official visit, making it the first visit to Bhutan by a Japanese foreign minister. 

“The visit is an outcome of the recent visit to Japan by Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay from April 10-13 this year and a reflection of the growing ties of friendship and cooperation with Japan,” a press release from the foreign ministry states.

The Ambassador of Japan will accompany the Japanese foreign minister to Bhutan Kenji Hiramatsu, officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Embassy of Japan in New Delhi. 

During the visit, Ambassador Hiramatsu and Ambassador of Bhutan to Japan Major General V. Namgyel will sign the Exchange of Notes for Grant Aid  “Project for Human Resource Development scholarship” in the presence of the two Foreign Ministers, the press release states.

Japan is a longstanding development partner of Bhutan. Bhutan and Japan enjoy very close ties of friendship, cooperation and understanding. The visit to Bhutan by Japanese Foreign Minister will further strengthen the relations between the governments and the peoples of the two countries.
