Religion: Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse is presiding over a 14-day Ka Gong Phursum Drubchhen (ceremony of the three mystic revelations of the eight pronouncements) at Kujey Lhakhang in Bumthang.

Monks from Mindrolling monastery in Dehradun, India, Trongsa Choetse Rabdey, and Gomchens and Tshampas from Sangag Geypeiling Gomdra at Bartsham in Trashigang are taking part in the Drubchhen.

Sangag Geypeiling Gomdra’s Dorji Lopen, Sonam Zangpo, said Ka stands for Kagye (eight pronouncements), Gong stands for Gongdue (Abhipraya Samaja) and Phur stands for Phurpa (Vajra Kilaya).

He said Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse is presiding over the Kagye Drubchhen in the Kagong Phursum Lhakhang with some 100 monks from Mindrolling monastery. He is also performing the Moendrup ritual simultaneously.

Headed by the reincarnation of Lam Sonam Zangpo, Mipham Yulgyal, some 100 monks from the Trongsa Choetse Rabdey are performing Gongdue Drubchhen at the main Kujey Lhakhang. Narak Kangsha is also being conducted along with the Drubchhen.

The Phurpai Drubchhen in the Guru Lhakhang is being presided over by the Batsham Gomdra’s Lam Ugyen Rangdrol along with gomchens and tshampas from the gomdra. The Tordhog ritual is also being performed simultaneously.

Lopen Sonam Zangmo explained that Kagye was the treasure of Tertoen (treasure discoverer) Nyang while Gongdue was the treasure of Tertoen Sangay Lingpa. Phurpa was Tertoen Thragthung Duejom Lingpa’s treasure.

He said all three Drubchhens are considered to be sacred.

Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche is funding the Drubchhen. Lopen Sonam Zangpo said rinpoche is also making offerings of Tshog Bum and Marme Bum (100,000 butter lamps offering). “They are using local butter for Marme Bum and are offered at Kujey, Jampa Lhakhang and the Zangdopelri near Kujey,” he said.

He added that rinpoche is conducting the Drubchhen to commemorate Guru Rinpoche’s birth year and 400 years of Zhabdrung’s arrival in Bhutan. It is also for the wellbeing of the world and the country in particular.

The drubchhen that started on July 31 will conclude on August 13 with Ngoedup Langwa (receiving of spiritual wisdom/power).
