KD Builders defeated Old Friends in the first Open National Volleyball Championship (ONVC) final in Nganglam, Pemagatshel yesterday.

The winner of the tournament received cash price Nu 50,000. Runners-up took home Nu 40,000.

The final match for women was played between NST and Sharchokpa Doros. NST defeated Sharchokpa Doros 3-1 set.

The winner of the women’s category was awarded Nu 30,000. Runners-up took home Nu 20,000.

The three-day championship was organised by Bhutan Volleyball Federation (BVF) in collaboration with Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC).

The championship saw 17 teams –11 men’s and six women’s. Entry fee was Nu 6,000 for men’s team and Nu 4,000 for women’s.

Federation’s focal person, Sangay Tempa, said ONVC was held with the objective to keep the volleyball alive, especially in the dzongkhags without sports association.

Dungsam Cement Corporation Limited (DCCL), Hotel LC, Dungsam Polymers Ltd., Cheki Wangmo Transport, Wamrongpa Shop and sports shop also sponsored the championship.
