Unlike in the past, three women teams participated in the annual khuru tournament this year in Dorokha, Samtse.

The Dorokha Drungkhag Sports and Cultural Association (DDSCA) organised the tournament.

About 18 male teams with three teams from Rangtse village of Gakiling gewog in lower Haa also participated.

The three-day tournament started on November 30.

Dorokha drungpa Karma Jurmi said the main objective to conduct the tournament was to promote and preserve traditional games.

“It is also to promote a better understanding and cooperation among the communities,” he said.

Meanwhile, the number of teams participating in the tournament decreased this year, as Denchukha also organised another khuru tournament at the same time. Farmers were also busy harvesting paddy and many could not participate.

In the women’s category, the Dorokha central school team won the tournament, while Bichgaon team and police team stood second and third respectively.

In the men’s category, Timburay United took the first position, while Sharp Shooters and Buffaloes won the other two prizes.

DDSCA awarded Nu 12,000, Nu 9,000 and Nu 6,000 as cash prizes.
