“Election victory depends on party workers.” Do you agree with that?

I agree that about twenty percent may depend on party workers because of their outreach in their locality. However, the rest seem to depend on the popularity, service record and capacity of the party president and the candidate.

Why did you choose to become a politician?

I see lots of issues and problems on the ground which need policy intervention. Politicians craft policies and make decisions while civil servants implement the policies.  Therefore, I decided to become a politician to bring a positive impact in the community and the nation at large by participating in good policy making.

Lumang Gewog has the highest poverty rate compared to other gewogs in Trashigang . How can this be best addressed?

Bhutan Tendrel Party will focus on increasing the household income. Agriculture is the primary source of income for the rural people. Improving agriculture practice and ensuring market access can be one strategy. BTP will initiate land development to enable farm mechanisation to make farming easier and productive. Improving infrastructure like roads and irrigation facilities is important for household income. Provision of access to financial service is another important measure to lift Lumang out of poverty.

Three reasons why people should vote for you.

People have become smarter. They know who will serve them well. I have the experience of working with the people at the grassroot for the last 31 years in different capacities and I know where my constituency stands in the face of economic development. Therefore, I feel they will vote for me for my humility, experience and understanding of the local community.

Rural-urban migration is the biggest issue for the constituency. What solutions do you have?

Improving amenities in the rural areas is making life in the rural areas better. Increase rural household income by making farm work easier. Life is about opportunities, bringing business opportunities to the rural area. Providing better financial access and support to the rural folks is seen as some of the solutions through BTP’s lens.

Why should the youth join or not join politics?

Young people can come up with innovative ideas and bring fresh perspectives to the table. Today’s youth are our future leaders and we must prepare our youth to take future leadership roles. Therefore, youth must join politics.

Despite the potential for ecotourism in your constituency, not many tourists visit. Why?

The national butterfly (Ludlows) in Barshong and Gomchu areas; Kharungla the abode of more than 200 species of birds and Dangling Tso are some of the ecotourism potentials in my constituency. However, the distance from Paro international airport and lack of infrastructure and proper promotion are some of the reasons for the lack of tourists. Therefore, BTP will open tourist entry and exit from Samdrupjongkhar and promote eco-tourism in the constituency. Build Eco-lodges and homestays in the area rather than star hotels.

Why should people in your constituency go for an experienced representative like yourself?

Experienced representatives bring in lots on to the table. Experienced representatives have better negotiation skills and have navigated the political landscape for some time and understand the complexity of governance. Experienced representatives can make matured decisions and better policies.  Therefore, electorates should go for the experienced candidates.

“Election victory depends on party workers.” Do you agree with that?

Affirmative to a greater extent. Election victory depends on the collective and harmonisation of many factors. The key factors are the party’s leadership, candidate, experiences, tract record and manifesto. However, the party’s management, structure and party workers play a crucial role for election victory.  Party workers are the foundation and backbone of the party to reach the message to the voters and seek support to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of the voters.

Why did you choose to become a politician?

I had an opportunity to work more than two decades in both public and private sectors but I never had an opportunity to serve directly benefiting the community where I belong. It is for the “call of the Nation and call of my demkhong” and my interest to serve the Tsawa-Sum in my own small or greater ways.

Lumang Gewog has the highest poverty rate compared to other gewogs in Trashigang . How can this be best addressed?

Presently, Lumang gewog has the highest poverty rate but I have a dream to make Lumang gewog better in the next five years. I will address this by executing following pledges:

Start Gongri-Jerichu hydropower project, which will create employment opportunities, contract work for contractors, improved business opportunities, access to market farm produce, and improvement of access roads to project site.

Improved road infrastructure – blacktop gewog centre road and all big chiwog roads, base course all farm road, and construct new farm roads

Upgrade Riserboo Hospital as Specialist Center and upgrade gewog BHU

Promote eco-tourism, support homestay and eco-lodge development

Support commercial production of cash earning crops and

Support small business and promote entrepreneurship

Three reasons why people should vote for you.

I solicit my demkhong people’s vote for the following three reasons

I’m a technical professional who will bring in quality infrastructure development in demkhong.

I have the educational knowledge, practical experience and zest to bring in rapid socio-economic in my constituency and the country

I come from a very humble family and I will serve my demkhong humbly, not with pride and pomposity

Rural-urban migration is the biggest issue for the constituency. What solutions do you have?

I’ll make Wamrong a better demkhong in the next five years. My pledges are focused on economic development, creating employment, promote small businesses, boost income of farmers, infrastructure development, and promote tourism

Why should the youth join or not join politics?

The future of our country is in the hands of our youth, so to make better Drukyul youth should join politics.

Despite the potential for ecotourism in your constituency, not many tourists visit. Why?

The lack of marketing & promotion, poor facilities like hotels and homestay, bad road conditions, tourist exit-entry difficulties, and lack of investment to develop tourism.

How interactive were you with your voters in your constituency?

As we all know, politics is all about engaging and interacting with voters. Even before deciding to join politics I interacted with voters and sought their support and blessings. Before the campaign, I visited all the villages a couple of times to understand, and discuss their needs and issues, present our party’s manifesto. Interacted through social media like Facebook, WeChat, WhatsApp, Telegram group chats to reach broader voters who reside outside the demkhong.
