Favorites Kuenjung FC and Zhowong Clan FC booked their place in the ongoing Gathuen Futsal Tournament final at the futsal pitch below the Changlimithang stadium in Thimphu. 

The semi finals were played on July 12.

Ten teams took part in the tournament, which was organized by Thimphu Palace FC.

The first semi final match saw Kuenjung FC face off against Brothers Kingdom. Kuenjung FC cruised through to the final with a comfortable win over their opponent. 

Dawa, a player from the Thimphu league winning team, Transport United scored five goals for Kuenjung FC. An own goal by Brothers Kingdom cemented Kuenjung FC’s place in the final. The match ended 6-2 in favor of Kuenjung FC.

Kuenjung FC’s goalkeeper, Tshering Dorji said this was a massive win for the club and that they were looking forward to play the final. “Zhowong Clan FC is a good team and it is not going to be an easy match for us,” he said. 

Kuenjung FC will be adding their 20th silverware to their trophy cabinet if they win the final.

In the second semi final match, Vink FC played Zhowong Clan FC. Both teams conceded an own goal but goals from Karma Wangchuk and Ngawang were enough for Zhowong Clan FC to make it to the final. 

Vink FC’s skipper, Til Bahadur’s goal did not make much of a difference as Zhowong Clan FC booked their place in the final with a 3-2 win.

Tandin Phub, captain of Thimphu Palace FC and the organiser of the tournament said conducting such tournaments during vacations help the youth stay away from unnecessary problems.

“The main objective of organising this tournament is to promote game spirit in our youth and to inculcate good attitude in the players,” he said.

Kuenjung FC and Zhowong Clan FC will play the final today.
