Kuenzang J Tenzin won the National Handicap Golf Tournament rolling trophy in Thimphu and took home a Whirlpool refrigerator yesterday.

Kuenzang J Tenzin was tied with Captain (Retd) Tenzin Namdra with a net score of five under, after 36 holes which led to playoff for three additional holes. Kuenzang’s birdie in the second hole in the playoff sealed his victory.

“Golf needs consistence touch and then only it becomes your play,” said Kuenzang J Tenzin.

A total of 45 junior boys and girls aged below 18 participated in the tournament at the Indian Embassy Golf Course on April 16 while four amateurs and 69 regular golfers competed at the Royal Thimphu Golf Course from April 1-23.

The tournament was organised by the Bhutan Golf Federation and Bhutan Olympic Committee.

Only 39 golfers qualified for the final day.

The highest birdie was claimed by Sonam Tshering with five, while the longest drive (372 yards) was made by Leki Dorji.

The prize ceremony was graced by Brigadier Dorji Wangchuk.
