Water: The eighteen households of Kumchi village in Phangyul will no longer have to worry about shortage of water.  The drinking water scheme at long last is coming to the village.

Water will be brought from Zhochalung, 19km from Kumchi village.  The project began 10 days ago with a low-key ceremony.

Gem Dorji, Phangyul gewog’s administration officer, said equipment worth Nu 700,000 had been acquired from previous year’s budget, and the gewog has received about Nu 500,000 additional budget for the scheme.  The gewog has received only Nu 1.3M (million) for the project that is estimated to cost Nu 4.5M.

The 18 beneficiary households are contributing labour.  They have already completed digging earth and fitting about two kilometres pipes.

‘We no longer have to worry about water shortage,’ said an elderly woman of Kumchi.  Villagers said the small perennial stream on which Kumchi villagers depended on for water is drying.
