You are supposed to be ready for lockdown anytime: PM

Following the news of the two positive cases in Kolkata, India, and their primary contacts being traced and tested, many were found calling each other if there would be another lockdown.

Speaking to Kuensel this evening, Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering said that he was surprised to see people inquiring about a possible lockdown.

“We are in the middle of a pandemic of a highly infectious disease. We’re all supposed to be in an imminent lockdown state.”

Lyonchhen said public panic and thronging shops to hoard groceries whenever there is a positive case,

clearly shows the complacency among people. “Anyone who is worried about a lockdown and are inquiring around, are the ones who have been complacent.”

Lyonchhen didn’t rule out a lockdown, in this case, saying that we are in the midst of a pandemic and anything could happen.

He said that every household was supposed to have stocked essentials enough for at least a week. “The initial three to five days, depending on the type of outbreak, would be absolutely under lockdown where no one will be allowed to come out. After that we would activate the zone system.”

Lyonchhen added, “I’m disappointed when I heard people rushing for groceries last night following the news. We are all supposed to be ready for lockdown anytime.”

“We should expect lockdown anytime until the pandemic stage is withdrawn. Please, do not let your guards down.”
