Religion: A nine-day Shrimad Devi Bhagwat maha puran is underway in Dagana at the recently inaugurated Devi mandir (temple) at Dagapela.

The treasurer of the Hindu Dharma Samudhaya in Dagapela, Robin Chhetri said the main objective of conducting the maha puran is to commemorate the 60th birth anniversary of The Fourth Druk Gyalpo and for promotion of the principles and values of Dharma such as love, peace, non-violence, compassion and tolerance.

“Our aim is to have continuous peace, prosperity and security in the country,” he said.

He said the committee would also be organizing pujas like the Dushera and Diwali at the temple.

The temple has statues of Devi Saraswati and Maha Kali. The Devi Puran was held after the inauguration and saw more than 300 people attending the ritual. Its construction started in June 2014 at the cost of Nu 1.1 million and was funded by the government.

The maha puran concludes on October 22.
