Crime: A 32-year old man was arrested from Reutala, Trongsa yesterday for an attempt rape of a 75-year-old woman from Pangzur, Langthel on September 19 afternoon.

The suspect, a driver from Yangyer, Trashigang was arrested after Baling tshogpa Namgay lodged a complaint on September 20.

“I had to lodge the complaint because the suspect had left the village when I went to resolve the issue through alternative dispute resolution,” he said.

According to the woman, the suspect tried to rape her when she was weeding her chili garden above her house.

She told the tshogpa that the suspect who recently married her niece allegedly tried to pull her pants down and lifted her kira.

The suspect then tried to drag the woman down to the ground but she fought back and cried for help.

She escaped unhurt. The suspect then is believed to have fled the scene.

Later that night, when the suspect’s wife knew about his alleged mischief, he allegedly hit his wife.

“The wife who had bruises on her right eye accused the suspect of hitting her when the duo was engaged in confrontations over his mischief,” tshogpa Namgay said.

But when tshogpa reached Pangzur on September 20 morning, the suspect had already left the village. “They told me that he has took a cab to Trongsa,” the tshogpa said.

The suspect’s house is over a kilometer away from the woman’s place. Trongsa police is investigating the case.
