Gelephu police detained three girls and five boys, all under 20 years in connection with the death of a 21-year-old man who succumbed to head injury at the Gelephu Central Regional Referral Hospital on May 30.
The deceased was brought to the hospital on May 24 after the patrolling team of de-suups and police officials in Jampeling found him unconscious on the road.
A de-suup on duty, who drove the boy to the hospital, said that the deceased was almost dead when the team picked him up and rushed to the hospital. “He was unconscious. I’m not sure what was used to hit the boy on the head,” he said.
He added that the friend of the deceased informed de-suups on duty about the incident. Two girls were caught on the same day and the boys on the following day.
The incident happened near the fishery area.
The boy suffered a head injury and massive internal bleeding, which was the main cause of death. The injury had led to a comma, according to medical officials.
The boy was kept in the ICU for almost a week.
Gelephu Police said that it was a planned attempt. The deceased was found chatting with a married woman who happened to be his ex-girlfriend.
The husband of the woman sought help from his friend and made her call the 21-year-old for a date on May 24.
After reaching the site, the man was attacked by the group. Officials say the deceased was hit severely on the head and the others fled the scene.
The incident took place within the Thromde area but the area is connected with only a rough road.
Two among the group are minors.
Gelephu police are investigating the case. Among the eight suspects detained so far, one is a student. The deceased is from Sershong gewog.
