Crime: The Mongar district court has sentenced a 20-year old man to 17 years in prison for vandalising the Jangchub choeten in Jurmey gewog in Mongar earlier this year.

The incident was reported to Gyelpoishing police on March 24 and the man was arrested the following day.

The investigation found that Pema Dorji had gone to Gyelpoishing and on his way back he had stopped to drink alcohol.

This led to him vandalising the choeten.

Police found his clothes covered with soil from the choeten.

As Pema Dorji confessed to the crime he did not receive a life sentence. His lighter sentence was also on account of his clean record and age.

The convicted has a wife and child at home. He is from Tshenkhar village in Jurmey gewog.
