Crime: Tsirang district court on May 19 sentenced a 33-year-old man from Dagana to nine and half years imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old girl and for being in possession of controlled substances.

The court also ordered him to pay a compensation of Nu 25,000 to the girl.

The incident came to light when the girl went missing on March 29.

According to the verdict, the man and the girl were found to be sharing a room in one of the hotels in Damphu. He was arrested on March 31.

The court also  sentenced the girl’s father and her cousin to a month prison term for manhandling the man.  They were asked to pay Nu 3,000 as compensation. “They can pay thrimthue in lieu of imprisonment,” verdict stated.

The man was given 10 days to appeal.
