A 25-year-old man from Tsirang was stabbed to death on the night of May 25 at Phuensum Lam (lower market) in Phuentsholing.

The incident occurred at 11pm after two groups were involved in a brawl following a heated argument. The deceased worked as a salesman in a store in Phuentsholing.

The deceased’s friend, a 40-year-old man, who is a driver by profession, and also from Tsirang, was also stabbed in the incident. He was referred to Thimphu hospital the same night.

Sources say that the two groups were drinking in a bar. The deceased was with three friends, while the suspect’s group comprised of three men.

“They had some arguments and made noise inside the restaurant,” one shopkeeper said. “The restaurant owner asked them to leave.”

The groups then fought outside. Sources said that the suspect and his friends had asked the deceased and his friends not to make noise in the restaurant, following which the argument had started.

However, only two men from each group were involved in the brawl, police officials in Phuentsholing said.

The two suspects are from Pasakha and Sarpang. One of the suspects was earlier convicted for larceny. A police patrol team had intervened the fight and the two suspects are in police custody.
