Twenty-two teams from the five eastern dzongkhags have participated in the ongoing Mewang Gyalsey archery tournament in Mongar. The tournament began on September 30.

While 14 teams are participating from Mongar, there are one team each from Trashigang and Pemagatshel.  Three teams each are participating from Trashiyangtse and Lhuentse.

The tournament is being held as a league, where the three teams play in morning and three teams in the afternoon. During the 15 rounds play, whoever set more game scores three points. Each team has six players.

Mongar Archery Association (MAA) is organizing the tournament this year.

According to the general secretary of MAA, Tandin, the tournament is being held to commemorate the birth anniversary of His Royal Highness the Gyalsey.

He said the winning team will take home 48 inches Samsung Led TV for each player while the first runners-up players will take 40 inches Samsung Led TV. “The second runners-up will be awarded 32 inches Samsung Led TV.”

He also said there will be prizes for league champion, highest karey, highest dobjay, highest bako dobjay and highest bull’s eye hitter in 45 rounds. “There will also be a prize for the player with highest karey in 15 rounds and man of the match.”

Meanwhile, the league rounds will complete on October 11 and the quarterfinals will be played from October 12 and semifinals from October 15.
