The Mangdechhu Hydro Electric Project Authority (MHPA) received an award from the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP), India on January 3 for being the best developer in hydro sector.

According to a press release from MHPA, the project under construction of 720 Mega Watt adopted indigenous proven new concepts to ensure commissioning on scheduled time and cost. MHPA managing director, Arvind Kumar Mishra, received the award.

The MPHA is the first hydroelectric project, which will be commissioned next year under the 10,000MW initiatives by 2020. It was signed between the government of India and government of Bhutan on June 8, 2010.

The press release states, “MHPA adopted the combined concept of indigenous proven methods and also new concepts of project implementations along with modifications in the design and engineering.”

It also added that numerous other efforts have been put in to ensure commissioning of the project within the scheduled time and approved costs.
